Persephone is the daughter of Zeus and Demeter and Queen of the Underworld. She's a young, beautiful woman with long hair.
Persephone was kidnapped by Hades, while picking flowers on the Surface. After eating pomegranate seeds while in the Underworld, the Rule of the Fates required her to spend eternity there.
Zeus negotiated a settlement so Persephone could spend a few months each year with her mother in the world above. This is why we have the changing of seasons. The earth becomes fertile when Persephone is reunited with her mother each year.
Persephone often carries a torch, to help her guide the souls of the dead. She's a powerful figure in Greek mythology.
